It was big fuel price rises that helped increase the cost of living in Ireland by 1% in March 2012.
The Irish Consumer Price
Index (CPI) was up 1 per cent in March, pushing the annual rate of
inflation back up to 2.2 per cent.
Petrol prices in Ireland rose 3.3 per cent
in March 2012 - and they have risen by 9 per cent in the last year. Diesel prices were
up 1.8 per cent monthly and 9.2 per cent over the year.
There were also increases in
health insurance premiums, clothing and footwear
The
Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), ( that
excludes the cost of mortgage interest) also rose 1 per cent in March,
taking the annual rate to 2.2 per cent.
The rate of inflation in Ireland has been one of the lowest in the euro
zone.
